- Pardubice were 3-for-7 on the man-advantage
- Fehérvár's failures on special teams were costly
- Jiří Smejkal with 1G, 2A on the night
Five-time Champions Hockey League participants Dynamo Pardubice had no trouble dispatching Hungarian side Fehérvár AV19 as the Czechs put seven past Dominik Horváth en route to their first victory of the 2024/25 campaign. Newcomer Jiří Smejkal showcased excellent chemistry with his new club, scoring one goal and assisting on two others.
Pardubice's powerplay was on point in the opening minutes as the Czechs sunk a pair of goals to take an early 2-0 lead against the Hungarians.
Last year's scoring leaders connected just 42 seconds into the contest when defenceman Peter Čerešňák found the net off of a setup by Lukáš Radil to draw first blood. Then, on their second man-advantage, it was Lukáš Sedlák tucking one past Horváth to cushion his club's lead with Smejkal assisting on both tallies.
After 20 minutes, it was all Pardubice with the hosts leading in shots 18-8 as well as shots on goal 15-5. Despite the Czechs' dominating performance, however, Fehérvár managed to keep the goal gap to two.
As second-period action got underway, Pardubice continued to push the pace of play as the Hungarians struggled to put anything together offensively.
Three minutes into the middle frame, Sedlák secured his second of the night, increasing the Czechs' lead once again. Then, moments later, Smejkal would go on to make it 4-0 with his first of the campaign.
Fehérvár were given multiple opportunities to climb back into the mix with Pardubice committing three infractions in the span of seven minutes to give the visitors three powerplays and even some 5-on-3 time. But 25-year-old netminder Tomáš Vomáčka was unbeatable, denying the Hungarians from having any chance at cutting into the lead as Fehérvár's special teams continued to struggle.
Late in the period, the Hungarians' Anže Kuralt was handed a major penalty, giving Pardubice their fifth powerplay on the night.
Already 2-for-4 on the man-advantage, the Czechs added another powerplay tally, this time off the stick of Daniel Herčík two minutes into the third period. Herčík's marker was his first in the CHL and came in just his second game in the pan-European competition. Martin Kaut netted his first of the campaign at 45:43 as any hopes of a comeback from the visitors all but vanished with Pardubice continuing to control play.
As time wound down, Kaut netted his second on a penalty shot as the Czechs went on to hand the Hungarians their first loss and secure their first points of the competition.
