- Zug finish 1st in Group B, Pilsen finish 2nd
- Milan Gulaš: 2 goals for Pilsen, including shootout-winner
- David McIntyre: goal for Zug
Thanks to Milan Gulaš's late equalizer and shootout-winner, HC Pilsen defeated EV Zug 2-1. Despite that, Zug secured first place in Group B after taking four of six points from Pilsen to finish the Group Stage with 14 points. They put themselves in good shape by winning last week’s meeting 5-2 on home ice. Pilsen finish second in the group and also advance to the Round of 16.
Knowing they needed to win by at least three goals to overtake Zug, Pilsen tried to attack in the first period and generated the better scoring chances but ran into a hot Luca Hollenstein.
After a scoreless first period, Zug scored the game’s only goal in the second minute of the second. Pilsen were unable to clear their own zone and Dario Simion sent a nice backhand pass to David McIntyre who, in turn, backhanded the puck past Dominik Frodl. A few minutes later, Frodl was lifted in favour of Kristián Kolář, who played the rest of the game.
With Kolář out for a sixth attacker, Pilsen managed to score with 1:31 to play when Gulaš one-timed a pass from Jan Eberle. However, once the game headed into overtime, Zug knew they had secured top spot regardless of the outcome. Both Hollenstein and Kolář were perfect through overtime and the first five shootout rounds before Gulaš scored in round six.
