- Pirates pick up three points from two road games
- Rotter & Schneider with Capitals' goals
- Spelling & Korsgaard 1+1 for Pirates
It was a night to remember for the Aalborg Pirates as they recorded their first Champions Hockey League win, and head back to Denmark with three points from two road games.
Vienna, who lost to Frölunda two nights ago, took the lead with 6:39 played - LGT Top Scorer Peter Schneider with an accurate wrist-shot beating Ronan Quemener at his near post. David Friedmann tied the game up in the second third period - Jack Walker's shot coming back of the post, and Friedmann with a gaping goal to aim at through traffic on the rebound. 1:35 later the Pirates went ahead, Jeppe Jul Korsgaad given too much time and space in the Capitals' zone and finishing smartly with 29 minutes played.
Raphael Rotter levelled the scores a couple of minutes later with his own well-directed wrist shot, and that was how it stayed through the third period to force OT. In overtime and with a man advantage, the Pirates eventually set up Thomas Spelling who fired a wrist shot past JP Lamoureux to give Aalborg their first ever CHL win!
