- Four goals scored by Salzburg in the second period
- Salzburg add their first +3 points of the season
- Salzburg outshot SønderjyskE 67-46
Red Bull Salzburg took on Danes SønderjyskE Vojens on home ice under the Alps, with both teams searching for their first victory of the season. Though both sides fought hard, luck was only on Salzburg’s side, granting them their first three points.
The first period began with a costly mistake by SønderjyskE's netminder Mattias Pettersson who misplayed the puck, allowing Peter Schneider to intercept it and feed Andrew Rowe who fired it into the top corner for the game's first goal. Despite several chances, especially from Salzburg, no other goals were scored in the opening frame.
The second period was dominated by Salzburg who dismantled the Danish defence and scored a total of four goals. Three of those came on powerplays, with Dennis Eamon Robertson, Peter Schneider and Andrew Rowe all capitalising with the extra man on the ice. Mario Huber added a fifth, shooting into an uncovered net after receiving a perfectly timed pass. With the buzzer sounding, Salzburg went into the locker rooms with the warm feeling of a five-goal lead.
SønderjyskE came out fighting in the final period and it paid off when Nikolaj Krag Christensen found the back of the net in the second minute, slotting the puck between David Kickert’s pads. However, any hope of a comeback was quickly dashed when Lucas Thaler restored Salzburg’s five-goal lead with a shot just under the crossbar.
The Danes managed to score a consolation goal in the final minute, but by then, the game’s outcome was already sealed. As the final buzzer sounded, Salzburg celebrated their first victory of the season, a 6-2 win.
