- The Rouen Dragons qualify for the Playoffs
- Rungsted Seier Capital tie it in the second
- Rouen's undisciplined play almost costs them
The Rouen Dragons needed a victory in any capacity to ensure their advancement to the Round of 16 and that’s exactly what they got in their 4-2 decision over Rungsted Seier Capital.
The visitors struck first when a sharp angle shot ricocheted off the boards and found the stick of Loïc Lampérier who deflected it in tight past Ville Kolppanen. The marker was reviewed to determine if there was a distinct kicking motion, but ultimately stood, giving the French side the lead 3:15 in.
Rungsted had a couple of chances to challenge the lead, including a 2-on-1 that sailed over the net and a powerplay that failed to convert, but were left chasing the score in the early going.
Late in the first, Rungsted returned to the man-advantage with Rouen guilty of a duo of infractions. Despite outshooting the visitors 17-6, however, the Danes still trailed by one after 20 minutes.
The period of the long change began with a 5-on-3 that was quickly swapped for a 5-on-4 when Kolppanen played the puck outside the trapezoid giving the French a brief break.
With neither side able to cash in on the man-advantage Rungsted's hill only became higher to climb when Vincent Nesa deposited a cross-crease feed from Anthony Guttig to extend Rouen's lead to two at 25:51.
Discipline issues continued to plague Rouen, however, as they found themselves down by two players due to consecutive penalties. The resulting 5-on-3 was exactly what the home side needed to cut the deficit to one.
Morten Jensen launched a bomb from the slot past a sprawling Matija Pintarič to give the hosts their first of the night. Two minutes later, Joachim Holten Møller found an open lane and the equaliser when his shot from the point had eyes.
The French flirted with their third tally of the game late in the period, but a great defensive effort by Rungsted kept a rebound from going in and the clubs headed down the tunnel tied to begin the third.
This methodical match-up continued with the visitors dictating the pace of the play.
Five minutes into the closing stanza their efforts would be rewarded when David Gilbert slid one in short side to give the French their second lead of the night, though some controversy would follow. Rungsted's Head Coach Erik Hjalmarsson attempted to challenge the play for offsides, but was unsuccessful in his plea.
The final period occurred without incident save for when Kelsey Tessier took advantage of an empty net to pot the French side's fourth, making it four goals from four different players as Rouen skated away with their third victory of the campaign.
