- Zug scored 5 times in opening period
- Gregory Hofmann scored twice for visitors
- Luca Hollenstein got the shutout
It took just two minutes for the Swiss side to take the lead. Gregory Hofmann scored his third goal in as many games to put EV Zug in front. Zug needed just six seconds on their first powerplay to double their advantage, this time Oscar Lindberg found the top corner. Even when Rungsted Seier Capital had the man advantage they couldn’t get anything going, as Yannick-Lennart Albrecht made it 3-0 whilst Zug were shorthanded. Zug made it 4-0 in the first period, as Hofmann scored his second of the period on the breakaway, to make it a really tough start for Rungsted on home ice. Erik Thorell scored the fifth with 2 minutes to go to put Rungsted well and truly out of it after 20 minutes.
In the second period, the home side gave a great account of themselves, limiting the number of high-quality scoring chances Zug created. The away side continued to dominate puck possession, but Rungsted maintained their defensive structure. Zug outshot Rungsted 21-8 after a scoreless second period.
In a largely uneventful third period, both teams created a limited number of scoring chances, with the game’s result not in doubt. With five minutes to go, Rungsted went to the powerplay with the hopes of giving the home fans something to cheer about, but once again failed to get on target. In the end, Zug ran out easy 5-0 winners and Rungsted will be left to lick their wounds, with another tough test coming at home on Saturday against HC Pilsen.
