- Skellefteå first team to qualify for Round of 16
- Davos experience their first loss
- Andreas Johnson and Jonathan Pudas each had two goals
Skellefteå AIK scored once in the first, twice in the second, and three times in the third to maintain their perfect record as they handed HC Davos their first loss of the season in this 6-2 decision. The Swedes will head into their next CHL games unbeaten and became the first team to secure their place in the Playoffs.
Andreas Johnson ripped home a one-timer from the near dot to give his team the lead 6:38 into the first on the powerplay. Some back-and-forth passing eventually led to Pontus Johansson finding Johnson all alone in the circle as the defenceman fed it to the forward who wired it into the back of the net.
But then Brendan Lemieux tied things when Davos made their powerplay debut later in the period. Adam Tambellini slid a shot from the far circle that found Lemieux's stick as the forward redirected it past Strauss Mann for his second of the season.
With the middle frame underway, it was the Swedes tucking two in quick succession to extend their lead to a two-goal cushion.
Johnson secured his second when he deflected a Jonathan Pudas point shot into the cage, then a minute later, it was Mikkel Aagaard Hansen notching his second tally of the campaign when he took a feed from Oscar Lindberg corralled the puck, turned and fired it past Sandro Aeschlimann to make it 3-1.
The Swedes kept up the pressure in the third and were rewarded with a goal by Viggo Nordlund. Nordlund got control of the puck, skated down the slot and lasered it past the stick of Swiss netminder.
Filip Zadina continued his torrid scoring pace, adding another tally to his growing collection when he hammered home a one-timer on the powerplay that went just under the crossbar 11 minutes into the third.
But the Swedes quickly added two on the man-advantage to extend their lead to four goals. Both came courtesy of Pudas, who snapped each goal from just above the slot, to register his second and third of the campaign. These tallies effectively ended any chance of Davos getting back into the game as Skellefteå skated away with their fourth win.
