- SønderjyskE still looking for first victory
- Lahti’s Olof Lindbom had a 92% save percentage
- SønderjyskE picked up 14 penalty minutes
The Lahti Pelicans travelled to Denmark to face SønderjyskE Vojens in their fourth game of this year’s CHL. Both teams had struggled in the competition so far, making this a crucial opportunity to change their fortunes – but only one team succeeded.
The Finns came out strong in the opening period, dominating the home side from the start. Lahti's Miika Roine opened the scoring just 1:26 minutes into the game, sending the puck into the net from close range to give the visitors an early lead. A few minutes later, at 5:54, the Pelicans capitalised on a powerplay, lighting the lamp again with a goal from Leevi Tukiainen, who finished off a series of quick and precise passes into an open net. Lahti extended their lead further at 16:40 when Adam Bareš circled the goal before firing a cannon into the net, making it 3-0.
The Finns remained the more aggressive team in the second period. At 31:44, SønderjyskE’s Alexander Wiklund was called for slashing, and Lahti punished them quickly. Less than a minute into the powerplay, Tukiainen scored his second goal of the night, increasing the Finns' lead to 4-0. The Danes did have their moments, especially later in the period when they too had a man-advantage following a high-sticking penalty at 35:41, but they failed to convert, leaving the score unchanged.
The third period was tense and full of emotion, with roughing calls handed out to both teams. SønderjyskE fought desperately to get back into the game. Alexander Wiklund found the back of the net at 42:05, cutting the deficit to 4-1, and Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup added their second, bringing the score to 4-2. But despite their efforts, it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback, as Lahti held on for the win, securing a much-needed victory.
