- It was a battle of netminding in this close contest
- Benjamin Rautiainen scored Tappara's only goal
- Sander Hurrød produced the game-winner in OT
A tight game culminated in a deserving win for Storhamar Hamar who took down Tappara Tampere in a 2-1 final. Sander Hurrød tallied the game-winner in OT as the Norwegians nothced another victory in their 2026/27 Champions Hockey League season.
Both netminders were excellent during the first 20 minutes as neither club found the scoreboard with Storhamar leading in shots 11-7.
Second period play got underway with the Norwegians drawing first blood thanks to Sverre Rønningen who threw a seemingly harmless shot at the net that found its way through traffic and behind Christian Heljanko. A faceoff win in their own zone allowed Rønningen to gather the puck and wrist it towards a perfectly screened Heljanko to register his second of the season.
Two and a half minutes into the third, Tappara made it interesting when they found the equaliser on a Benjamin Rautiainen penalty shot. The forward took his time gliding in from the side as he patiently outwaited a sprawling Theo R. de Vries before calmly lifting it over the right pad.
Still knotted at 1-1 after 60, the extra session ensued where a chance at one end led to an opportunity at the other as Hurrød played hero for the visitors when he forced his way towards the net before backhanding the puck behind the Finnish netminder to propel his team past the hosts and claim the win.
