- Five different scorers for Vienna
- Capitals get second win of 2019/20 CHL campaign
- GKS Tychy finish winless on the road
In Group F’s final game, which saw two teams with no hope of making the Round of 16 face off in Vienna, the Capitals put GKS Tychy to the sword and ran out comfortable winners. The home side dominated proceedings from the opening faceoff to the final whistle. In the first period, the Capitals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after just 12 minutes. Patrick Peter opened the scoring after some good work below the goal line by Ty Loney, before Nikolaus Hartl finished off a superb passing move eight minutes later to put the game out of reach for the Polish side almost as soon as the game had started. Radosław Galant scored for Tychy with four minutes to go in the opening frame, as the Polish side started to gain traction in the final minutes.
The home side continued to dominate puck possession in the second period, and at the midpoint of the game, the Capitals scored their third. Lucas Birnbaum’s point shot found a way through with traffic in front, giving John Murray in the Tychy net no chance. However, GKS Tychy kept on finding a way to stay in the game. With three minutes to go in the middle frame, Christian Mroczkowski made a great move to his left-hand side, before firing past Bernhard Starkbaum to cut the deficit to one goal once again.
With the shots piling up in the third period, the Capitals re-took a two-goal lead thanks to Sondre Olden’s goal. A fantastic face-off play worked to perfection, as Olden one-timed the puck past Murray to give the Capitals the insurance marker they needed. Sascha Bauer would add a fifth for the home side, on their way to a convincing victory.
