Both the Aalborg Pirates and ZSC Lions Zurich would have been hoping for a win for the Frölunda Indians as they faced the Vienna Capitals earlier on game day four, but as Vienna picked up the win, it made this meeting between the Group A rivals even more important as they look to keep their qualification ambitions alive in this years Champions Hockey League.

It was an even start to the game, but Aalborg eventually broke the deadlock as Mikkel Højberg scored with less than three minutes to go in the opening period, firing the puck past Lukas Flüeler after a broken play saw the puck land favourably on his stick, giving the hosts a one goal advantage to carry into the second period.

After finding themselves a goal behind coming into the second frame, Zurich were there to try and spoil the party, and it didn't take them long to silence the crowd, firstly Maxim Noreau fired a great wrist shot past Roman Quemener on the powerplay, and Denis Hollenstein added another just minutes later, finding the back of the net after some great play by the brothers Chris and Phil Baltisberger set him up with a wide open shot to put the visitors ahead, which stood until the the end of the middle passage of play.

Zurich continued to control the tempo of the game, trying everything they could to solve netminder Quemener but he was solid for the remainder of the game, stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced, and while the goalie was standing on his head, Aalborg looked like they'd tied the game at the very end of the game.

After a loose puck couldn't be tapped in on the rebound, Aalborg maintained possession and the shot coming in was cleared off the line by Zurich defenceman Kevin Klein, who got to the puck just in time to stop it clearing the goal line, which after video review overturned the ruling on the ice of a good goal, denying the Pirates of the chance to force overtime, giving Zurich their first regulation win, and the Swiss side join Frölunda and Vienna at the top of Group A with seven points.
